Illinois lawmakers appear to be considering a revival of the vehicle miles traveled tax, according to a March report in the Chicago Sun-Times. This was an idea that was first floated in 2019 but proved dead on arrival. A new bill introducing a VMT pilot sits awaiting floor action and pending a referral to a substantive standing committee in the Illinois Senate.
