The endangerment finding allows the EPA to regulate greenhouse gases, the primary cause of climate change, under the Clean Air Act. A state analysis showed if greenhouse gas standards for cars and trucks are eliminated, on-road emissions of four pollutants in Mecklenburg County would increase by a total of 470 tons by 2035, and by 2050, annual emissions would increase by 940 tons.
