The term “studentification”, coined by Darren P. Smith describes the economic, social, cultural and physical transformations that occur in University towns due to an increasing concentration of students. Unlike traditional gentrification which involves an influx of wealthier residents displacing lower-income populations, studentification is unique in that it is driven by a transient, relatively low-income student population.
