One year after WMATA overhauled its Metrobus system by cutting routes from 225 to 125 and eliminating hundreds of stops, ridership has fallen 8 percent and bus speeds have declined, though the agency is providing 13 percent more service and 27 percent more riders now have access to frequent buses. New extended cross-jurisdictional routes like the C53 have attracted strong ridership, while coordination gaps with Montgomery County’s Ride On system contributed to a 19 percent ridership drop in that county.
