A study by the Complexity Science Hub and ETH Zurich published in PNAS estimates that about 38% of the world’s population will live in cities with more than one million people by 2100, roughly 450 million fewer than simple trend extrapolations would suggest, as the growth advantage of large cities weakens as countries urbanize.
